I felt like Friday couldn’t come soon enough this week! If we’re being honest I’m just staring at the clock today willing it to be time for me to leave. I don’t have a particularly exciting weekend lined up, but I’ll be enjoying the weather while car shopping. Also, I guess potentially getting a new car is exciting as well!
It was a great week overall! Coming off the relaxing weekend I had was definitely what I needed to recharge, and aside from accidentally locking my car keys in the trunk yesterday, whoops! I didn’t have anything terribly stressful, which was a nice change of pace!
Onto my non-scale victories for the week! Remember to share your victories in the comments below. I love reading them!
I registered for the Baltimore Relay! I’ve been wanting to do the Baltimore Running Festival, but didn’t feel confident enough to do the half marathon, but also couldn’t find anyone to do the relay with me. Then a friend of me texted to let me know her wife was looking for a fourth runner for her relay team and I jumped at the chance! I’m so excited to run this race and I can’t wait!
However, that means I have to be a bit more diligent with my running than I have been. Since I haven’t had any 10Ks coming up I’ve been running 5Ks pretty consistently. Once I realized I’d have to run 6 miles I had a little bit of panic as I haven’t done that in a hot second. So I laced up those running shoes and ran 4.3 miles around my neighborhood. Made me much more confident that I’ll be at 6 miles by the time the race comes around in October.
I am still not running with my GPS watch, and it feels amazing, I’ve been able to remind myself why I grew to love running in the first place. I feel so much better and more positive when I do go for a run. It actually makes the time pass by so much quicker now that my routine doesn’t consist of: run, check distance, .5 miles terrific! Run some more, I must be at 2 miles, check watch .6 miles. WHAT THE?!?!
I ran those 4.3 miles in the morning!!! This is shocking for me. Unless I’m racing, or meeting a friend for running and brunch and mimosas I never run in the morning. However, on Wednesday I was able to go into work late, so instead of sleeping in I woke up at my usual time and went for a run instead. I felt so great about it that I decided to set my alarm for 5:45 on Thursday and go for another morning run. Yeah….that was a complete failure, the alarm went off and I just said “NOPE!” turned off the alarm and went back to sleep until my regularly scheduled wake up time. Oh well! Baby steps.
Have a great weekend everyone! Hopefully on Monday this time I’ll have a new car to show you all!
It’s FRIDAY! It’s been a busy, but good, week for me. I’m going to jump right into my Non Scale Victories for the week.
1. I’ve been wanting to get my boater’s license for a while so I could learn to drive my boyfriend’s jet skis. Last week I finally did, and this week I drove a jet ski for the first time! I was a bit nervous, but I didn’t do too badly. Nobody was injured so I’ll count it as a success. After trying my hand at jet skiing my boyfriend took over and we rode around the bay eventually ending up in North Beach, which is right by my hometown in Calvert County. That was an unexpected detour.
2. On Tuesday I got back to running and right when I was starting ran into some friends of mine that were waiting for their running group. I ended up joining them, because why not? I’m glad I did. I don’t usually like running in groups. I prefer solo runs and going at my own pace. However, running with them helped to keep me motivated at times when I may have given up if I were on my own
3. Columbia Yoga Center by my house was offering yoga classes this week for my favorite price, FREE. I’ve been wanting to get try some cross training and I thought this was the perfect opportunity. I did a runner’s yoga and a basic yoga I class and I really enjoyed both. Look out for a blog post about the classes.
That’s all for now! I’m excited for the weekend, I’ll be going to Virginia Wine Country for some rest, relaxation and my favorite thing: WINE! Leave your own Non-Scale Victories in the comments below!
Happy Fourth of July! It also happens to be a Friday, which means it’s also Non-Scale Victory Friday! I started the day off at the Arbutus Firecracker 10k. As a whole, I loved the race. It was so well organized and it was great running through the Arbutus community and seeing everyone in their yards cheering everyone on. I did not, however, love running a 10k after I have only run one week in the past month. It was ROUGH, but I’m glad I did it.
So anyways today I only have one Non-Scale Victory; I finished the Arbutus Firecracker 10k! Trust me I had moments where I was doubting whether I’d be able to cross the finish line, I had to keep stopping and walking and at times just wanted to give up. Once I reached the 6 mile marker I thought there was no way that my time would be below 1:30 or 1:40, but it was! The race wasn’t timed but the timer at the finish line read 1:14:33 when I crossed. Not bad at all considering how many times I had to stop and walk, and it’s not far off from my best 10k time. So I’m pleased with my results, go me!
I’ll write more about the race in the next post but for now that’s it. I’m excited to go celebrate the Fourth with my boyfriend and some friends. I even made a key lime pie that I’m hoping is as delicious as it looks!
I hope everyone has a terrific Fourth and feel free to share your non-scale victories in the comments below!
It’s Friday, and you know what that means! Time for the non-scale victories of the week. So without further ado:
I got out and ran on Monday and Tuesday after an entire week off from running last week, despite the heat it was great to get out and run.
I tried a new recipe on Monday! I made pizza with a yuca root in the dough. Don’t know what a yuca root is? Well it looks like this:
And my pizza looked like this:
And it was delicious! I got the recipe from this amazing blog here!
After making delicious, healthy pizza I met up with a friend on Wednesday for delicious, greasy, unhealthy pizza. I got pepperoni, I enjoyed every bite and I didn’t feel bad about it at all. Yay for not feeling guilty for the occasional indulgence.
Made plans with a friend to go running on Saturday morning in Baltimore followed by brunch. I HATE running in the morning, but I’m excited to start Saturday off early and healthy, not to mention the girl time!
That’s all for me! Enjoy your weekends, and as always share your non scale victories in the comments below!
This was one of those weeks that felt like it would never end, and yet at the same time I can’t believe it’s already Friday! I was so busy and things just got away from me. Proof, I didn’t go running once this week. I don’t usually let this happen but from realizing on Monday I had left my only sports bra at my boyfriend’s place, to having plans after work every other night of the week there didn’t end up being time. I’m just going to tell myself the universe was trying to tell me that if I ran this week then I would have injured myself or been struck by lightning. At least that’s what I’m telling myself.
Enough talk! Onto the Non-Scale Victories!
Stopped procrastinating and finally registered for the Baltimore Women’s Classic on June 22nd. This was the first race I ever ran and I’m super excited to do it for a second year in a row!
I had to stay late at work yesterday so I could attend orientation for graduate school (How scary/exciting/nerve wracking/I forgot how to study!) and I planned ahead and packed a healthy dinner so I wouldn’t starve. I’ve developed a habit of packing lunch, but I always seem to forget to pack enough for dinner for the few moments I need it!
Despite not being able to run this week I ate so healthily! Lots of fruits and vegetables. LOTS of fruits! It’s strawberry season, my favorite and they’re so sweet! The cashier at the grocery store remarked after ringing up my 2 pounds of strawberries, 16 ounces of blackberries and pint of blueberries “I would be healthy if I ate all that!”
Anyways that’s all for now! Don’t forget to share your personal NSVs below! I love reading them!
It’s Non-Scale Victory Friday! I had a lot of positive things happen this week. You can find the first Non-Scale Victory Friday here, and so without further ado!
I went shopping last night after my run and bought so many whole foods and then proceeded to cook most of it into healthy meals for the upcoming week. My fingers still smell like garlic this morning!
I ran the ZOOM Annapolis 10k on Saturday! I already wrote about that, but the bit thing was that I classified the race as “fun!” I was talking about it to my boyfriend after and he stopped me and said “Do you realize you’ve never described running as ‘fun’ before?” He’s right too! So yay for running being fun!
My church had their annual Greek Festival this past weekend. After jet skiing I was starving so I stopped by and got some food. Once there I was craving french fries much more than usual (I think it was the salt). I bought a serving of them and enjoyed about ten, and then I stopped! I LOVE french fries, they are easily one of my favorite foods, but so unhealthy, so I try to avoid them. Still I’m so glad that I didn’t deny myself a craving, I let myself thoroughly enjoy every unhealthy bite, and then, most importantly, stopped when I’d had enough.
I was so sore on Monday after running, jet skiing, and water skiing the previous Saturday, but I still managed to go for a short two mile run! After those two miles I had to stop though. My legs were so mad at me!
What were your non-scale victories this week? Share them in the comments below, and have a great weekend!
If you’ve never heard of a Non Scale Victory (or NSV for short), it’s basically exactly what it sounds like, healthy victories in your life that don’t have anything to do with the scale! As I was thinking about a way to track my progress on my blog this seemed like a no brainer. It’s the perfect way to keep track of all the positive outcomes that are a result of my lifestyle changes.
I’m going to devote Fridays to a reflection on the past week and to list out the various non-scale victories in my life. This isn’t just about me either, feel free to share your own NSVs in the comments below, I’d love to read about them! And so without further ado….
I threw away my scale! I already wrote about this here, but it’s worth repeating. Doing this and starting this blog is my first step of many towards a life of positive and healthy changes in my life.
When the thunder and lightning started up on Tuesday evening, ruining my running plans, I made the best of it and did a 40 minute Jillian Michaels workout video at home instead. My abs are still killing me!
While going through my summer wardrobe I found I can now wear shorts that I haven’t been able to fit into for years! I’m excited to rock my bright pink shorts this summer!
I’m running my second 10k tomorrow! I’ll be in Annapolis for the Zooma Annapolis Half Marathon and 10k. This is my first year running this race, and I’m very excited. You’ll be able to track my progress on twitter so make sure you’re following me @ScalesDown!
I’d say overall it was a pretty good week. Feel free to share your non-scale victories in the comments below!
